Vijai Rahim and Grace Bobb were crowned champions of the 2017 Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation’s (GAPLF) Senior Championships held Sunday at the poolside of the Ramada Princess Hotel.
Dominating the Men’s Open 74kg category, Rahim of Berbice’s Hardcore Gym had racked up a total of 667.5kg with of 504.128 points. He had a Best Squat of 22.5kg, adding to his 155.0kg Bench Press and 300kg Dead lift.
In the battle of sisters in the Female Open Unequipped 72kg category, it was a straight shootout between Grace of the Tower Gym and her sister Blossom. Grace weighed in with a total of 277.5kg; with Squats being 87.5kg, Bench Press 47.5kg Dead Lift 142.5kg, which was a Personal and 296.675 Wilks. Blossom Bobb on the other hand ended on 272.5kg, competing hard but falling to her sister.
The competition saw some 22 bodybuilders competing for spoils and bragging rights, with other winners being; Dwayne Welch of Buddy’s Gym who won the Men’s Open Unequipped 59kg Class kept his Gym on top as they ended with gold in the 83kg Men Open Unequipped and Men Sub Junior Unequipped classes.
Winston ‘Little Master’ Stoby, Franklyn Brisport, Feroz Hussain, Joseph Stoll, Frank Tucker, Hardat Tarson, Vickram Panday, Nigel Phillips and Fazim Abdool were among the competition’s gold medalists.
